Selena
She was a designer, singer and performer and broke barriers in the industry of music. She was Mexican-American, but also traditional. She was the first to bring Tejano to mainstream culture. In the same way that many people mourn a star who passed away too young, her death was not a good time and ended a growing career. Over the years, the fans became inspired to work even harder to make sure that Selena's successes would not fade away. Selena, the Tejano artist who was tragically killed in a shooting accident, sparked a Latino response that could be thought of as similar to the reactions to John Lennon's deaths. The music of Selena, a singer who was hugely success in Latino communities across North America touched people young as well as old. Selena was a sexy glamorous performer on stage that was frequently called her as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an excellent role model since she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigns.
